Personality: If there were one word or phrase used to characterize Jakob Lyon it would unquestionably be ‘no-nonsense’. Undoubtedly, Jake himself might pick something more vivid; like ‘enigmatic’. Either way, he is a young man of supreme loyalty, honesty and humility. He is proud of who and what he is; and where he comes from. Though he is an organized individual, Jake is not dull, nor his skills the product of some compulsion. It is not about control, but about being economical. From a very early age he was taught to be respectful and punctual. It is not a rare sight to see him helping one of the elderly cross the street or playing with the neighborhood kids from his block. Smart and passionate, he makes a great friend who is always around to lend support, be it a hand or shoulder.

Appearance: Working the docks, along with being a bit of a gym rat, has perfected Jakob’s physique. There are even a few people that like to call him “The Body”, though Jake dismisses it. Perhaps they do it to mock him, perhaps not. Standing at 6 feet even and weighing in at 191 pounds, he is in prime condition and continually puts in the time and effort to keep himself so. His face is oval-shaped with a lightly squared jaw that seems to be covered in a permanent 5 o’clock shadow. His features are not soft, nor are they sharp; but well formed and clear. Eyes of a dark, rich saffron shimmer below thick straight brows. The scruff combined with the Vandkye brown bedhead gives Jake the appearance of having just rolled out of the sack. His mouth is mobile, with a full lower lip; while his smile is bright and somewhat wry. Though Jake has a ruddy skintone, he will tan a rich nut brown during the spring the summer months. His style of dress in very low maintenance, preferring jeans and t-shirts with an occasional button-up shirt or suit jacket thrown in for a change.

Strengths: Like most of his species, Jakob is possessed of extraordinary adroitness and tenacity along with the acute senses of sight, sound, taste and scent. As a leader, on and off the field, he is confident and brimming with vast determination. A take charge personality and truly the type of man who will see things through, no matter the outcome that might prevail. He is an observer and a deep thinker, always calculating and determining the best course of action before making important decisions. As a young man of eighteen, Jake has had to learn a few of life’s harsh lessons already; ones that have taught him the benefits of being both resilient and self-sufficient.

Weaknesses: For all of his cool determination, there are times when Jakob can be rather aggressive. He will, at all costs, try to avoid using this trait with other people, instead focusing this on a goal or situation requiring extreme locus. Additionally, he is a quiet soul, one not overly gregarious. Some would say he is too responsible and serious. His silence can be misconstrued as inapproachability and he can seem intimidating to many who don’t know much of him. Not opposed to progress, Jake is a little less adaptable than one might think for a seaman who must deal with the unpredictable Mother Nature. He also will rarely ask for assistance, believing it a weakness, even if he does not feel that when others ask for his help. Jake is very guarded when it comes to his personal life. He comes from a Pard with very old customs and though his Father has repeatedly told him he does not expect Jake to follows such archaic terms; Jake still believes that they are needed. Therefore, he will not allow himself to become deeply attached to a girlfriend knowing that some day he will be marrying one of his own Pard.

History: Born in Los Angeles, but raised in Aurora Heights, Jakob is a member of the Pantaleon Atrox; an exceptionally rare subset of Lion Shapeshifters. His parents’ marriage was arranged; as are all the Atrox’s marriages. It sounds archaic, but is a custom that was instituted to sustain the propagation of their breed. And so Sher, a West Coast diva, came to be the wife of an East Coast fisherman named Leonidas. It was an unhappy union from the get-go, as neither Jakes father, nor his mother, had much in common. Sher hated living in Old Town; she was used to living in much more plush surroundings, seeing that her family came from old money. Onidas, as Leonidas was called about town, came from a middle income family of hard workers and was saving his earnings with plans of starting his own business. Jake was born a mere 10 months after the ceremony, while his sister, Arielle, followed 5 years later.

As a child, Jakob was very close to his father, always accompanying him to work at the Aurora docks or on fishing excursions for whomever Onidas was employed by at the time. He loved the ocean as much as his sire; an oddity for a feline but not completely unheard of. He was also very protective of his younger sibling, sheltering Arielle from Sher’s ire. Through middle school Jake continued to learn the ins-and-outs of sea-faring alongside Onidas, while Arielle was carted along to the many ‘high society’ functions that Sher attended. It was upon reaching his freshman year of high school that his family life truly fell apart. Arielle confided to her father that during these so-called ‘society’ outings, her Mother had actually been meeting a man. When confronted, Sher proclaimed that she had been having an affair for a number of years. It was a tirade filled with more venom than anything Jake had seen in all of his years. There was no doubt that divorce proceedings were in order, and so Onidas did not contest when Sher filed that very day.

Just as arranged marriages are an Atrox custom, so also is redress when one of the partners perpetrates wrong in the marriage. As so, the Goryouns’ had to pay a small windfall to Onidas for Sher’s infidelity. There was hope of a clean break and a new beginning for the Lyons, but the human courts decided that Arielle belonged with her mother. Fight as he might, Onidas could not get them to budge and so Jakob’s beloved little sister left with Sher for Los Angeles. He and his father have had sporadic contact with Arielle over the past two years; always when she has had others send a note on her behalf or been able to call using a friend’s cell. Most of her time is monitored or scheduled by the Goryouns’; though Sher has very little to do with her own child now. Onidas has repeatedly tried to get the courts to rescind Sher’s custody but they will not. Both Lyon men hope that since Arielle will be thirteen, the courts will allow her to choose where she wishes to live, and that they can all be together again.
